BudDIY Podcast – Episode 94 – Preparing for the Lindsey Acres Business

October 11, 2021 //  by Buddy//  2 Comments

My family and I have worked for a few years now to get us closer to making money with our homestead. We are finally on the cusp of being able to produce things for others and charge for it.

Today I talk about what are the baby steps we are taking to move us closer and closer to that vision we have. These steps are really the ones that make it seem like things are getting real. We have done a lot of work learning, now it is time to start the last step and open for business.

Open Source tractor, sounds great for homesteading:

I seriously debated doing that project. I did a bunch of research on it. The biggest problem I had was not a ton of people have made it, and working through problems I don’t understand could take a long time. So this was just a time commitment issue.

The other issue that prevented it was the lift capacity. No one had made one that could lift 2,000 lbs out of the back of a semi. I need that ability for buying bulk feed for animals. Fortunately the max weight that my tractor can lift is like 2300 so just barely there.

I really like the opensource ecology guys, but I feel like their project as has stalled out. They are still very active, but I feel like they have turned into a 3d printer company with this cool thing on the side. Hopefully they get some critical mass as they could do some crazy cool stuff.
